Memories of the Past Beatrice Whithill is 86 years old. She lives on her own in a condo that she's owned for the past eight years. She's lived through a world war, traveled around the world, raised a child and outlived her husband.

Beatrice Whithill is losing her mind. She flits from one topic to the next. Sometimes lingering, other times moving on before you even know what she's talking about. She often returns to old topics and begins them again, as though you never discussed them before.

Daydream I had the biggest urge to push her over the edge. She's leaning over the safety bar now. It would be so easy to push her over. It wouldn't take any effort at all. What would happen as she fell? Would she scream? Would she manage to grab one of the beams crossing from one side of the skylight to the other? Would she hang there and ask for help? And who would she ask? Surely not me, for I would be the one to push her. Though maybe if I acted horrified and said it was an accident she would take my hand. After all, we were friends. Trains I had just turned five, so it must have been around late September, early October of 1992. Grandpa and Grandma wanted to visit their family back in England and introduce me to them.
